The School of Education at Adelaide University is working alongside the Apple Education team to deliver a best-practice eLearning Program throughout the Bachelor of Teaching double degree and they have asked us to partner with them. Wednesday night (September 9) there will be an opportunity for you to talk to teachers of Year 12 examinable subjects. Scotch College is not a school. ‘Scotchie Sewists’ will be able to create garments remotely through ‘live streaming’ demonstrations and ‘how to’ videos, culminating with their efforts displayed on a virtual runway. The Microsoft AI for Good Challenge is for students to learn the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence. The principles of Remote Learning program are to promote: Gathering feedback from students and staff on what we need to do improve, sharing tips and techniques as well as the funny things – how do you turn off the microphones?? The webinar will cover topics like SACE information, ATAR calculations, bonus points, SATAC information and deadlines and options for university courses. The sessions will be recorded and uploaded to the school website. The majority of the exams will be done using an online environment either via FORMS or STILE. It’s been appreciated as it has been a challenging and yet rewarding time for all of us. The Scotch Shop is the home of the Scotch College uniforms, serving both the junior and senior campuses. Our teachers have been participating in many conferences, as well as being involved in decision making processes – if they are part of the examining bodies. Universities have been looking at their entrance requirements for 2021. Students should check out the courses and their requirements very carefully but if they need help, then our Careers Counsellors Belinda Sorensen and Mark Kelly are always there to offer advice or make an appointment to see me. Subject choices are due on Thursday 13 August. Students will need to apply online and can speak to student advisors about courses from Monday 7 September.
Our staff have been joining meetings with the SACE Board over the last few days to clarify how students will be supported through 2020. The latest research from UNESCO is stressing the importance of ‘Maslow before Blooms’ (ie. Patrick Dwyer (Year 7) and Jack Stratton (Year 7) received four Distinctions, Aleisha Burrows (Year 7) three, Alex Menzel (Year 7) and Cassie O’Connor (Year 7) two. : "Lunch and recess was too boring. This is held after the trial exams, Tabor College Virtual Open Night 30 July 7pm – 8.30pm. Scotch College was founded as a Presbyterian school for boys, a niche that was not served in South Australia previously. Year 11s have exams starting on Monday June 22 in the Chapel and Year 10 start semester tests on Monday June 22 in their classes. Over week 5, 6 and 7 students will be participating in the second PIVOT survey for the year. Staff are currently putting together semester reports for students from Year 7 – 12 and they will be available in SEQTA from Friday 26 June after 4pm. There have been many students asking for clarification about whether they should study certain subjects or not next year. The submit button is at the top of the screen and you will need to ensure that this has been pressed. Students can wear comfortable clothing making sure they are warm, as it’s quite cold in the Chapel. We are unable to offer work experience or physical service learning and instead we will develop a comprehensive wellbeing program using ConnectEd (our online presence) and Project Based Learning the students.
This webinar is open to both parents and students and we will be asking for registrations. The universities use this to help calculate a university aggregate and this is converted to an ATAR. Two of our staff – Julia Vine and Kara Cleary will be going on maternity leave at the end of the term and we wish them all the very best. As we begin Term 3, the following information has been shared via the You Can Ask That! The reason for scaling of subjects is to create fairness across all subject areas in calculating an ATAR. Some teacher feedback: I had the best science lesson today - kids running into the kitchen/shed to make an animal or a plant cell. I encourage students to make sure that they are familiar with the schedule, all morning exams start at 9am and afternoon exams at 1.30pm. On Friday morning I will provide information to the students about their choices for 2021. Information and engagement for our community during COVID-19.
