Led by David LaFlamme (flute/violin/vocals) and his wife, Linda LaFlamme (keyboards), the six-piece unit on this album vacillates between light and ethereal pieces such as the lead-off cut, "White Bird," to the heavier, prog rock-influenced "Bombay Calling." My dad never owned any other San Francisco rock albums (his record collection was never large, because he was busy raising me and my brother, who were just small kids then), no Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service and the likes, so this was my first exposure to the Bay Area scene way before I was aware of those other groups (even if I've heard songs from such groups on the radio even as a small kid). The other members were David's wife Linda (keyboards), Pattie Santos (vocals), Hal Wagenet (guitar), Mitchell Holman (bass) and Val Fuentes (drums).

7.7K likes. It's because the label didn't intend this version to be sold in the States (besides they figured that tons of American pressings can be found at just about any given American record store), meaning US dealers couldn't just order up some copies to sell at the store.
The noir framework, as well as lyrics such as "...she's just a reflection of all of the time I've been high," point rather candidly to the hallucinogenic nature of the song's -- if not the band's -- influences. I don't understand why people don't post the full artwork so others can do a decent comparison. The prominence of David LaFlamme -- former violin soloist with the Utah Symphony and original member of Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks -- adds a refinement to It's a Beautiful Day's sound. This was the original lineup of David LaFlamme, the first Linda LaFlamme (he married a different Linda later on), Val Fuentes, Patti Santos, Mitchell Hollman, and Hal Wagenet. The front cover is the same from issue to reissue to reissue and is no real help at all. The almost chant-like quality of the track slowly crescendos into an hypnotic and dreamlike sonic journey -- led by LaFlamme's brilliant violin work. That just about sums up this album.
