Here's 10 reasons why the Glebe, in this case, might be Ottawa's best neighbourhood: Russian nesting dolls and octopuses are just some of the many distinctive paintings that cover the exposed red brick walls you'll find in the Glebe. Glebe and its immediate neighbour Forest Lodge, are popular suburbs of some 18,000 people across 223 hectares. Glebe is an extraordinarily interesting inner city suburb of Sydney with lots of history and too many things to explore.

Back on Glebe Point Road I pass the old Valhalla cinema and am reminded of the community disquiet when it closed. Many thanks & happy travels!

When I get up close an old news voice recording starts to play and I recall that this was once a Wireless House broadcasting daily from 1935 until the 1960s.

Mkay, cyclists may not be the most popular people in the city, but anyone who's eco-friendly and active gets a one-up from me. Explore Glebe, a vibrant inner Sydney suburb to discover well known book shops, great coffee, a temple and harbourside walk when exploring this suburb.

Walking along the foreshore, I come across dog walkers, cyclists and mums with bubs in prams. It did take longer than expected.

How exciting to find the names of your mother and grandmother listed as residents of the house. Rain or shine, it's an event not to be missed. There is no pressure. The photo above was taken Mrs. Tiggy Winkles.

It reminds me of the picket fenced cricket oval at Petersham.

As the Joanne behind Travel with Joanne, I hope to encourage you to explore Sydney beyond the usual tourist sights. If you have the energy, walk up back up the hill to a cafe on Glebe Point Road and get a coffee. It is part of the same area as the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, Queens Domain and the Hobart Aquatic Centre. Lots of different places to eat which is good food.

The Glebe was an area set aside to fund the early Anglican (Episcopalian for Americans) church.

Mexican at Feleena's, a breakfast bagel at Kettleman's, or a breakfast at Eddy's Diner. I so enjoy having the time to wander, to relax and look around.

There’s a yellow sign on a small brick building in the middle of the park.

Like you I want to return – and now I’ve read your post I’ll be on lookout for those places/sights. And just to let you know that Bellevue Cottage has reopened again and a morning coffe can be had on their verandas overlooking the water.

I take an average of 4-5 hours when I explore): Quite a long walk Jo, I’ve enjoyed the night life along Glebe Point Road and can recommend the variety of dining stops that you refer to.

Others are sitting on a sofa enjoying the late afternoon sun. Then it’s on to something exciting discovered in my research. Once a hotel it is now student accommodation.

Now seeing that in a rowdy theatre -- that's an experience. Another example of the community spirit in Glebe.

Whether it's a screening of The Room at the Mayfair or a bagel at Kettleman's, this local, hip (and nostalgic) neighbourhood is bustling with local businesses and an irresistible trendy vibe.
Most of my friends from school lived in the area (being in walking distance from the university), but there was a unique charm about the neighbourhood that's kept me coming back since graduation. I love the delightful lithograph of Café Bones on the wall (see my Haberfield blog).

Homeowners across the neighbourhood will be selling everything, from cupcakes, to antiques and furniture (for us broke students). This suburb reminds me so much of Balmain. Some of my earlier posts could have been divided into two.

I walk past before strolling down the tree lined Acacia Rd with its attractive houses. I have to confess a parochial bias--I love Glebe. I pass the dog racing venue (not for long) to the parkland where people have made their homes in tents under the viaduct.

It’s... The southern boundary is formed by Parramatta Road and Broadway.Broadway is a locality sited along the road of the same name, which is located on the border of Glebe, Chippendale and Ultimo.

In fact, even the centre of the park is called Central Park.

University Hall is first on my list.

Glebe is surrounded by Blackwattle Bay and Rozelle Bay, inlets of Sydney Harbour, in the north. The suburb of Ultimo lies to the east and the suburbs of Annandale and Forest Lodge lie to the west. Glebe has 287 properties available for rent and 37 properties for sale. He settles.

They ask if I’m looking for Nikki as “they’re in the garden”. While the Glebe has somewhat seen a commercialized boom in recent years, nothing will ever defy the charm of the vintage businesses that have been here for decades. The Glebe, in central Ottawa is mostly made up of single family homes, many of them built in the early decades of the 20th century. Having recently been to Charleville, I understand the culture shock you describe.

The Mayfair Theatre is in its 85th year of operation and shows movies you would never find in the big-name theatres scattered across the city. These parks and gardens give ample open space to enjoy the outdoors for those who live and work in the city. A beautiful park and interesting shops.

I discovered interesting places (the Wireless House and Temple were highlights) and enjoyed a pleasant harbourside walk.

Then walk back along the water to the Fish Markets. Unfortunately, I must move on. All rights reserved.

Might I add they also show The Room once a month, which has been dubbed infamously as one of the worst movies ever made. What a privilege.

After seeing the single story workers’ cottages in Westmoreland St, and noting the brickwork of St Johns Parish Hall (better seen from across the road), the Fire Station and the impressive Town Hall (now a neighbourhood centre) it’s time for lunch. House of TARG is one of the newer establishments in the area (opened in 2014) and is home to some absolutely gorgeous vintage pinball machines. People stop and chat. Being within the limits of the Glebe, Dow's Lake gives Glebites and Ottawans city-wide the chance to see the Ottawa Tulip Festival, Mooney's Bay and the chance to rent a kayak and explore with the squad. It is a mix of grand and working-class architecture, largely gentrified, with great shops along Glebe Point Road, especially Gleebooks and food places. Excuse my bias as a Polish writer, but if there's something every establishment needs, it's potato and cheese perogies. It is a mix of grand and working-class architecture, largely gentrified, with great shops along Glebe Point Road, especially Gleebooks and food places. a lot of gay people live or go there. And a map to assist you: (You can download it here) (NOTE that the time indicated on the map does not allow for any stops. The Great Glebe Garage Sale will be taking place on Saturday, May 27 this year from 8am - 3pm. Glebe is an inner city Sydney Suburb about 3km South West of the Sydney CBD.

If you have the energy, I recommend a long walk.

A walk discovering Glebe and tracing family members footsteps sounds like a wonderful project. For some reason they left Glebe and moved to Charleville.
