You wont like this book unless you have some stodgy English professor explain all the allegorical motifs that come at certain times. Also, asking the question "why" something happens in a work of literature, is completely unreasonable. If you would not feel the horrible burden of Time weighing on your shoulders and crushing you to the earth, be drunken continually.
